Lesson 7. Copying, Moving, and Linking B... > Moving Information Between Windows

Moving Information Between Windows

In all Windows applications, you can use a similar procedure to move selected text or graphics with cut and paste. To cut and paste information between windows of the same application or windows of different applications, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text or graphic.

  2. Click the Cut button; choose Edit, Cut; or press Ctrl+X. Windows removes the selection from its original location and places it on the Clipboard.

  3. Place the insertion point where you want the selection to appear.

  4. Click the Paste button, choose Edit, Paste, or press Ctrl+V. Windows copies the selection from the Clipboard to your document. (A copy remains on the Clipboard until you cut or copy something else.)
