What Is a Network?

A network is a collection of interconnected computers. Your computer might be part of a network, especially if you work for a large corporation. A network has servers and clients. A server shares a resource, such as a hard disk, a printer, or an application. A server can also provide a service, such as email handling. A client uses those resources.

On the network, your computer plays the role of the client, accessing the shared resources you need. However, with Windows 98, your PC can also play the role of a server, sharing the folders and files you designate with your coworkers.
