Understanding Searches

Search engines are free tools that let you sort through the vast amount of information available on the Internet. If you don't have much luck with one search engine, you can always try another, because each one maintains its own list of pages, and each one indexes those pages differently.

Some search engines let you browse their index by selecting a series of categories and subcategories until you find the desired Web site. Other search engines let you search for a page using a form. You enter the criteria you want to search for into the form, and then a list of pages that match that criteria appears. Then you click a link to access one of the listed pages.
