Lesson 1. Introducing Windows 98 > Shutting Down Windows 98

Shutting Down Windows 98

When it is time for you to turn your computer off, don't just flip the Off switch. Doing so might damage your computer files. You need to shut down Windows 98 first and then let the system tell you when it's okay to flip the Off switch. To shut down Windows 98 and prepare to turn off your machine, do the following:

  1. Close all your open applications, making sure that any documents you're currently working on are saved.

  2. Click the Start button.

  3. From the Start menu, select Shut Down. Windows displays the dialog box shown in Figure 1.3.

  4. Make sure that the Shut down choice is selected, and then click OK. Windows initiates its shut-down procedure and soon informs you that it is safe to turn off your computer.
