Lesson 8. Customizing the Appearance of ... > Changing the Appearance (Colors) of ...

Changing the Appearance (Colors) of Windows

Windows uses a particular color scheme by default. This color scheme determines the color of the title bars of active and inactive windows, the color of the Desktop, the style of the window text, the size and spacing of icons, and so on. You can select a different color scheme entirely, or change only the colors of individual elements. Here's what to do:

  1. Right-click the Desktop and select Properties. The Display Properties dialog box appears (see Figure 8.1).

  2. Click the Appearance tab. The Appearance page, shown in Figure 8.4, appears.

  3. Select a color scheme from the Scheme drop-down list. A preview of the scheme appears at the top of the dialog box.

  4. If you want, you can change the color and style of individual Windows elements. Select the element you want to change from the Item drop-down list and then select the color or style you desire.

  5. When you're through making selections, click OK.
