Working with Backup Media

If you have a backup device attached to your computer, Backup offers several commands for working with the device media. If you select the Tools | Media command, Backup displays a submenu with the following commands:

Identify: This command displays the name of the device and the name of the media (see Figure 16.10).

Initialize: This command erases the media and prepares it for new data. Backup will ask you to confirm that you want to erase the data.

Format: This command formats QIC media so that it can hold files. Because this operation erases any existing data on the media, Backup asks you to confirm that you want to format the media.

Retension: This command performs a fast forward and rewind on tape media to remove slack and produce even tensioning on the tape.

Rename: This command changes the name associated with the media.
