Scheduling Maintenance Tasks with Task Scheduler

The key to keeping your system in fine fettle is to run your maintenance programs—Backup, ScanDisk, or whatever—regularly. Placing shortcuts for these programs in your Windows 98 Startup folder is one way to ensure regularity. Performing a large backup or a Thorough ScanDisk check, however, might not be the most productive way to start your day.

Ideally, it would be nice to be able to set up a schedule so that these chores not only run at regular intervals, but also run in the evening or overnight when you won't be using your machine. Well, I'm happy to report that Windows 98 comes with a great little program called Task Scheduler that will do exactly that.
