WINDOWS 98'S SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTER

For fine-tuned control over the Windows 98 startup, you should check out the new System Troubleshooter utility. It provides a graphical front-end for all the various startup components, and you can use simple check boxes to toggle startup items on and off. I discuss this utility in Chapter 17, “Wielding the Windows 98 System Tools.”

Chapter 17 also discusses the new Automatic Skip Driver utility, which you can use to troubleshoot hung startups caused by a defective device or device driver.
