Adding New Hardware

You've seen how the Windows 98 Setup program made hardware installation a breeze by detecting your devices automatically. You can get the same level of convenience after Windows 98 is installed by running the Add New Hardware Wizard. This Wizard essentially just runs the Detection Manager again with a few extra bells and whistles thrown in. If you'd prefer to specify the new device, or if you have a disk from the manufacturer, the Add New Hardware Wizard also lets you install individual devices by hand.

In either case, though, you need to display the Add New Hardware Wizard. To do that, select Start | Settings | Control Panel and then open the Add New Hardware icon in the Control Panel folder. Windows 98 displays the first of the Add New Hardware Wizard's dialog boxes. Click Next > to continue. The next few sections take you through the rest of the process.
