BROWSE FOR APPLETALK FILE SERVERS

The Annoyance:

With Mac OS X 10.3, I can no longer browse file servers that use AppleTalk. I go to the Network icon, and they just aren't there. This includes the old Windows NT Server running Services for Macintosh, which doesn't run on TCP/IP, and old Macs with file sharing turned on. AppleTalk is turned on in Network preferences, but still no dice.

The Fix:

It certainly is annoying, but with Version 10.3, Mac OS X now separates turning on AppleTalk from turning on AppleTalk browsing. In Versions 10.3.0, 10.3.1, and 10.3.2, both are turned off by default. In Version 10.3.3 and later, AppleTalk browsing is turned on by default. To activate AppleTalk browsing, do the following:
