7.7. Use two network adapters with different protocols on each one

When you install a second network adapter, it automatically takes on the protocols that are already installed for the existing adapter. In some cases you'll want the same protocols on each one, but in other cases you'll want to separate the protocols onto the different adapters. For example, you might have one adapter for a direct Internet connection (requiring TCP/IP) and another adapter for local network traffic (typical on a multihomed server).

If the LAN side uses NetBEUI, you might need to remove TCP/IP from the LAN side. What's more, you can only have NetBEUI on one adapter, so you need to remove it from the Internet side. The following section explains how to disable a protocol without removing it from your system.
