Chapter 7. Network Configuration > A duplicate name exists on the network

7.11. A duplicate name exists on the network

This error is caused by two adapters on the same computer using the NetBEUI protocol. NetBEUI can be used on only one adapter on a given network segment. Each computer using NetBEUI must use a unique NETBIOS name (taken from the computer name in the system properties). Because there is no means of assigning a unique name to each adapter, enabling NetBEUI on more than one causes a naming conflict.

7.11.1. Disable NetBEUI on all but one interface

The solution to this error is to enable NetBEUI on only one network interface. You can simply disable NetBEUI on the additional interfaces.
