11.1. Host a web site on your computer

If your computer has a direct connection to the Internet, you might want to host a web site on it. Or, perhaps you want to host a site on your local intranet. In either case, Windows 2000 includes everything you need to set up and manage a web site, along with FTP sites for file transfer and services for mail forwarding and newsgroups (the latter supported only on Windows 2000 Server).

When Setup installed Windows 2000 on your computer it probably also installed Internet Information Services (IIS), the Windows 2000 component that enables you to set up and manage web resources. The first step in setting up a site is to verify that IIS is installed, and if not, install it.
