10.12. Have the same IP address each time you connect

In most cases you won't need the same IP address for each connection, particularly if you're mainly doing web browsing, email, or accessing remote LAN resources. But in some situations, such as when you use TCP/IP applications that rely on a fixed IP address, you might need the same address each time you connect.

The process for enabling clients to request a specific IP address depends on whether the dial-up server is running Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Professional.
