12.12. Specify when you'll be prompted to change password prior to its expiration

By default, Windows 2000 prompts you for a new password 14 days prior to password expiration. However, you might want to change that period, particularly if you've changed the password age limit. For example, if you've decreased the maximum password age from its default of 42 days, you'll probably want to decrease the notification period as well. Or perhaps you don't want to be prompted until just a few days before expiration. In any case, it's a relatively simple change.

12.12.1. Change security policy

The security policy defines how soon Windows 2000 prompts you to change your password before expiration. If domain policies are set, they override the local setting.
