3.2. Control services remotely

The Services console works great when you need to manage services locally (start, stop, pause, restart, etc.) In some cases you might also need to manage services for a computer remotely. For example, you might have a remote server that isn't readily accessible because it's located in a branch office several hundred miles away. If you have a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or leased line connection to the remote network, you can use the Computer Management console to manage the remote computer's services just as you would a local computer. You also can use a telnet session and manage services from a command console.

3.2.1. Connecting to a remote computer for management

You can use the Computer Management console to manage remote computers in the same way you manage a local computer. Some differences apply depending on the task you're performing, but in most cases management capabilities are the same. You need a connection to the remote network, but beyond that connecting through the console is easy:
