Chapter 13.  Backup, Recovery, and Repai... > Back up to writable or rewritable CD...

13.4. Back up to writable or rewritable CD (CD-R/RW)

Although Backup doesn't directly support backup to writable or rewritable CD media, you might still be able to use those media types for your backups. Determine if your CD-R or CD-RW hardware supports the ability to act like a standard writable drive, enabling you to write directly to it through the standard Windows interface. For example, many drives support Adaptec's DirectCD software that enables them to act just like any other drive. You can drag files to the drive, copy them from a console prompt, and so on.

13.4.1. Set up the device

Check the drive's software to make sure it is compatible with Windows 2000. If you're running DirectCD, you need version 3.01c or higher, which you can obtain from your drive's manufacturer or directly from Adaptec. Install the updated software and verify that you can copy files to the drive outside of the CD creation software. For example, try dragging files to the drive in My Computer to verify that the drive works like a standard hard drive.
