Uninstalling Windows XP

Uninstalling Windows XP

If you’re unhappy with Windows XP, you can trash it and roll back to your previous version of Windows—provided that it was Windows 98 or Me. Some restrictions apply. You can’t roll back if you upgraded from Windows 2000 or NT, converted from FAT to NTFS after upgrading, or repartitioned your drive since upgrading.

To reinstate Windows 98/Me

1.
Choose Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Change or Remove Programs.

2.
In the Currently Installed Programs list, click Windows XP Uninstall.

3.
Click the Change/Remove button; then click Yes to confirm the removal.

Windows XP uninstalls itself. Your PC restarts with your old copy of Windows 98/Me.
