Lesson 7. Set Up Printing and Faxing > Share Your Printer with Other Macs

Share Your Printer with Other Macs

Any printer can be set up to share, meaning any other computer in your office or home network can print to it. This is great because until Mac os x came along, you had to buy a special networkable printer. Now you can have one little, inexpensive color Epson in your office and everyone can print to it.

Although everyone can print to a shared printer, other Macs (the ones that aren't directly connected) won't have any special options available unless you have installed the printer software on those particular machines. That is, different printers offer different kinds of special print settings. You probably installed the software that came with the printer onto the computer that is directly attached to that printer. But if you want the other computers to have access to those special settings, first install the software on the other computers.
