Lesson 7. Set Up Printing and Faxing > Having Trouble Printing?

Having Trouble Printing?

1.
If the printer has been chosen but isn't responding when you try to print, open the “Print & Fax” pane: Go to the Apple menu, choose “System Preferences…,” then single-click the “Print & Fax” icon.

2.
Make sure you chose the correct printer to print to; its name should be highlighted on the left.

3.
On the right side of the pane, click the button “Print Queue….” This brings up the list of jobs waiting to be printed, as shown below. These are the jobs that are lined up to print to that particular printer.

4.
Check to make sure the jobs are not on hold or stopped. The buttons should look like the ones above: “Hold” should be clear, “Resume” should be grey,” and “Stop Jobs” should not say “Start Jobs.”

If necessary, select a job in the list and click “Resume” or “Start Jobs” to start the printing process. Or select a job and click “Delete” to get rid of it.

TIP

If you send a job to print and nothing happens, often your initial reaction is to send it again. And again. And again. Then when you remember to look at the Print Queue you notice there are a dozen copies of the same job lined up waiting to print. So just remember, if you send a job to print and it doesn't come out, do not send it again! Go to the Print Queue and see what the problem is! If you have a dozen of the same jobs lined up to print, select each one and delete it.
