Lesson 8. Discover the Special Gems in M... > To receive and download an attachmen...

To receive and download an attachment

The attachment shown on the opposite page appears in someone's Mail message, or yours, as a file icon or as an actual image, shown below.

There are several ways to deal with this file:

If it's a photograph and you can see it in the window, then you see it and maybe that's all you want to do with it. So you're done.

If it's one file or photograph, you can do any of several things:

Note: If the email went to your .Mac account, you might get a message that you need to download the file before you can save or open it. Just click the “Download Now” or “ok” button in the message that appears, and then try one of the following techniques again.

Either: Drag the file to the Desktop or directly into any window or folder on your Mac.

Or: Single-click the “Save” button in the header information at the top of the message, then choose the folder where you want to save the file.

Or: Single-click the “Save” button and choose “Add to iPhoto” to save the image directly into your iPhoto collection.

Or: Go to the File menu and choose “Save Attachments…” to choose a folder in which to save the file.

Or: Control-click (or right-click) on the photo or file icon and choose any of several options, shown below.

If it's a series of photographs, you have even more options. You can do everything mentioned above, plus:

Save only one file from the collection. Press (don't click) on the “Save” button and a menu appears, as shown on the opposite page. Choose the file you want to save.

You can view a full-screen slideshow of the photos. Simply click the “Slideshow” button in the header information.
