Mac OS X Basics for New Users > Introduction to Mac OS X Applications

Lesson 4. Introduction to Mac OS X Applications

GoalsLearn about the common features and tools available in most Mac applications
Discover the key features of the Mac applications
Learn how the applications are integrated with each other

One of the greatest things about Macintosh applications is that they are consistent, which makes them easy to learn and easy to use. What you learn in one application applies easily to just about any other application.

In this lesson, I'll show you the consistent features and tools you'll see in every Mac application that is bundled along with Mac OS X. And I'll present a very brief overview of the major apps that you'll find in your Applications folder and the Dock. Be sure to take notice of how all of these applications are so integrated with each other!

To learn specifically about the new features in Tiger, please see the second half of the book. But I recommend skimming through this chapter even if you are familiar with the applications—you might be surprised by what you don't know about your favorite software!
