KEEPING YOUR KIDS FROM UNSAVORY SITES

If you're concerned about your children accessing sites that are inappropriate, you can help make sure that doesn't happen by turning on the Parental Controls. When you do this, your kids can only visit sites that you have bookmarked in advance for them (they can't visit or bookmark sites on their own). These Safari Parental Controls are actually turned on by going to the System Preferences (under the Apple menu), clicking on the Accounts icon, and then clicking on your kid's account. Once the account preferences appear, click on the Parental Controls tab, and then turn on the checkbox beside Safari. Now, close the Accounts dialog, choose Log Out from the Apple menu, and then log in as your child. Launch Safari, go to the websites that you feel are appropriate, and bookmark them by clicking on the plus (+) sign button in the toolbar (it will ask you for your Administrator's password when you do this). Then, log out and log back in again as yourself. That's it—the only sites your child will be able to visit are the ones you bookmarked. If he or she tries to access any other site, it'll be locked, and Safari will direct your child back to the site last you approved.
