iMovie HD: CONTROLLING HOW LONG STILLS STAY ONSCREEN

When you import a still image into iMovie HD (from Photoshop, a scanned image, a screen capture, etc.), you can determine how long the still image will stay onscreen. Just click on the image in the Timeline or Clip Viewer, and then click on the Photos button in the toolbar right above the Timeline, and in the upper portion of the Photos panel you'll see the Hare & Turtle slider (that's its official name, I think). Drag that slider to adjust the duration for that image (or to make your image look like a turtle—kidding). You can also determine how much you'd like to zoom in on the photo. After you choose the amount of time and zoom you want, click on either the Apply or Update button (it's Apply the first time you make a change to a photo). When you're there, you can turn off the Ken Burns Effect for that still (if you like) using the checkbox at the top of the Photos panel. From now on when you import a still, it will come in at that duration and zoom. You can easily change the settings by going back to the Photos panel.
