Fly Like an Eagle: mac os x speed tips > THE CALCULATOR'S HIDDEN POWER

THE CALCULATOR'S HIDDEN POWER

The regular old calculator that comes with Mac OS X is much more than it seems. In fact, it combines two of Dashboard's widgets into one. Not only does it do regular and scientific calculations (which is more than the Calculator widget can do), it also does the same type of conversions that the Unit Converter widget does, including currency conversions using updated exchange rates it pulls from the Internet. To put this baby into action, just open the Calculator (it's in the Applications folder), enter a number, and then choose what you want to convert that number into from the Convert menu in the menu bar. A dialog will pop up where you can choose what you want to convert, and when you click OK, the results are shown in the Calculator's window. So now don't you feel bad about calling the Calculator “old” and “regular”? Oh, wait, that was me. Sorry.
