Chapter: Cheap Trick: mac os x pranks > GIVE THEIR CALENDAR SOME INTERNATIONAL ...

GIVE THEIR CALENDAR SOME INTERNATIONAL FLAIR

Annoyance Factor 3: This is a good one to start you on your road to Mac mayhem, because it's a pretty low-intensity prank. It's so low-level that it may not reveal itself immediately to your mark, but when it comes around, it's pretty sweet. Go to the System Preferences under the Apple menu and click on the International icon. When the options appear, click on the Formats tab, and on the right side of the dialog, you'll see the Calendar pop-up menu (I know this is a weird place to keep calendar format preferences, and that's half the fun of it). By default, it's set to use the Gregorian calendar format we're used to, but it doesn't have to be that way, so try one of the other formats, like Hebrew, Japanese, or Buddhist (you'll see a preview right there in the preferences dialog). Also, click on the Customize button in the Dates section and change the Show format to Full. Then close the System Preferences and just smile—their world will soon start to unravel.
