Saving a Movie

Now you’re ready to use the Save Movie Wizard to save your final project as an actual movie. The wizard lets you choose among several destinations: You can store the movie on your computer, burn it on a CD-R or CD-RW, send it as an email attachment, post it on the Web with a video hosting provider, or record it to a tape in your DV camera. The wizard’s screens vary by the destination. In this section, I’ll describe how to save a movie on your hard drive.

To save a movie to your computer:

1.
Choose File > Save Movie File (or press Ctrl+P).

2.
Select My Computer (Figure 11.18); then click Next.

Figure 11.18. The Save Movie Wizard simplifies and automates the process of assembling your clips and compressing digital video to create movies.

3.
Type a file name and choose a location for the saved movie (Figure 11.19); then click Next.

Figure 11.19. Your My Videos folder is the movie’s default location, but you can store it anywhere on your hard drive.

4.
Select the settings for your new movie (Figure 11.20); then click Next.

Figure 11.20. Movie Maker suggests a setting for intended use, bit rate and display size, but you can choose any setting you like. The setting details and the estimated movie-file size appear in the bottom half of this screen.

5.
After your movie is saved, click Finish.

By default, your movie plays in Windows Media Player.
