Controlling the Logon Process

As described in “Logging on and Logging off Windows XP” in Chapter 1, Windows gives you two ways to log on (if you’re not on a domain):

  • The Welcome screen (refer to Figure 1.1) is the easiest and fastest way to log on. You simply click your name and type your password (if you have one).

  • The classic logon prompt (refer to Figure 16.14) is a more secure, less convenient method. You must type your user name and, if necessary, your password.
