Transferring Existing Files and Settings

Transferring Existing Files and Settings

The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard will help you move settings from one computer to another, including your personal files and info for Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Microsoft Office, and some third-party applications (Eudora, AOL Instant Messenger, WordPerfect, Quicken, Photoshop, and Acrobat Reader, for example), as well as desktop, display, and dial-up connection settings. The XP CD contains a version of the wizard that you can run on another Windows computer—even one that’s not running XP.

If you have two computers, you can transfer files and settings from the old one to the new one via a network connection, direct cable connection, floppies, CD-R, or Zip disk. If you have only one computer, run the wizard before you install XP, and save the file and settings to disk or a second hard drive.
