Exiting Programs

When you finish using a program, you should exit (or quit or close) it, to get it out of your way and to let Windows reclaim its memory for other use.

To exit a program:

  • Choose File > Exit (Figure 6.13).

    Figure 6.13. File > Exit is the usual way to quit a program. To choose it with the keyboard, press Alt+F to drop the menu; then press X.

    or

    Click the program’s Close button ().

    or

    Double-click its control-menu icon (at the left end of the title bar).

    or

    Right-click its taskbar button; then click Close.

    or

    Press Alt+F4.

    or

    Press Alt+spacebar; then press C.
