Opening Documents

You have several ways to reopen a document that you’ve already named and saved.

To open a document:

  • In the program that created the document, choose File > Open; navigate to the document; then click Open (Figure 6.29).

    Figure 6.29. The Open dialog box works like the Save dialog box described in the preceding section. Upgraders note that the old Save In and Save As Type lists are now called Look In and Files of Type.

    or

    In Windows Explorer, double-click the document’s icon (or select it and then press Enter).

    or

    If the document was opened recently, choose it from the Start > My Recent Documents menu.

    My Recent Documents is turned off by default. To enable it, see Table 2.1 in “Customizing the Start Menu” in Chapter 2.

    or

    Choose Start > Run (or press Windows logo key+R); type the document’s name and full path; then press Enter.
