Chapter 28. Useful Utilities > Troubleshooting Utilities

Troubleshooting Utilities

Mac OS X has quite a slew of troubleshooting utilities. To use most of these items, you need to really know what you’re doing—these are not tools for messing with lightly. All I’m going to do here is provide a brief description of each utility. If you are a typical user who never (or very rarely) needs to use these tools, you might want to store them inside a new folder inside the Utilities folder so they don’t get in your way.

The Console shows you technical messages from the system software and Mac OS X applications. If you are a programmer or if you need to do some serious troubleshooting, these messages, as Apple says, “may” be useful.
