Chapter 5. Menus& Shortcuts

Whenever you are at the Finder level of your Macintosh or whenever you’re in any program on the Mac, you’ll see a menu bar across the top of the screen, as shown below. Also shown below is a drop-down menu: when you click on a word in the menu bar, a list of menu commands drops down. In addition to these drop-down menus, on the Mac you’ll also find pop-up menus, contextual menus, and others. This chapter discusses all the various sorts of menus, the commands, and how to use them.

You’ll see a lot of typical “dialog boxes” in this chapter from a variety of applications. Don’t worry that you haven’t seen that same dialog box yet—the Mac is amazingly consistent and if you don’t see that exact dialog box, you will run into something similar.
