Personal Web Sharing

One way you can share files with anyone in the world over the Internet is through the Personal Web Sharing feature on your Mac: In the Sites folder (which is in your Home window) you can place web pages, whole web sites, QuickTime movies, documents of any sort, and folders. From any computer, someone can use a web browser to access these special shared folders on your Mac. Depending on the quality and speed of your Internet connection, Web Sharing can function as a local area network or as an easy way to share files across the Internet or within a corporate intranet.

Personal Web Sharing does not provide you with the ability to remotely upload files to a shared folder. To upload files to your computer from somewhere else, use FTP access, as explained on pages 664–666, or your .Mac account and iDisk, as mentioned on pages xxi–xxii.
