13. Word Processing

A1: Select first, then do it to it.
A2: I-beam:

Insertion point:

Pointer:

A3: I-beam.
A4: Insertion point.
A5: Either the character to its left, or the specifications you choose from the menu while the insertion point is flashing.
A6: Usually Command B for Bold, Command I for Italic, Command U for Underline. Some applications also use a Shift key in combination (for instance, Command Shift B to change to Bold).
A7: Press Command B (or whatever the command is), type the bold word(s), then press Command B again to toggle off the command.
A8:
  1. Select the paragraph (press-and-drag over it with the text tool, or try triple-clicking on it).

  2. Cut the paragraph (from the Edit menu, choose “Cut,” or press Command X).

  3. Position the I-beam where you want to insert the paragraph, then click to set the insertion point at that spot.

  4. Paste (from the Edit menu, choose “Paste,” or press Command V).

A9:

Cut: Command X.

Copy: Command C.

Paste: Command V.

A10: “Cut” removes the item and places it on the Clipboard. “Clear” removes the item and does not place it on the Clipboard—it’s just gone.
