Quick Start

Here are the briefest of directions for printing your pages. If it works, then you can skip the rest of this chapter, unless you want to understand what all the options are. For this very quick start, I have to assume you have the printer plugged in to both the wall and the computer with the appropriate cables, there is paper in the printer, and the printer is turned on and warmed up. If so:

1.
Open the document that you want to print.

2.
From the File menu, choose “Print....”

3.
Click the “Print” button (or hit the Return key).

That’s all. If it worked, skip to page 241 to learn about the various printing options.

This is typically what you will see when you choose to Print. All of the settings are explained on the following pages, but if you just want to print the page or pages in your document to make sure printing works, you can safely hit the “Print” button without bothering about anything else. Click the “Preview” button in the Print dialog box to see what your document will look like when printed on the page. The Preview button actually creates a PDF file, which then opens in the application Preview. Check out your menu options in Preview, and see pages 440–441.
