Forward Slash

The forward slash (/) is used as a division symbol in calculators, spreadsheets, databases, etc. It’s also used in World Wide Web addresses. You can use the slash on the regular keyboard (the same key as the question mark) or the one on the numeric keypad. Don’t use the straight slash (|) or the backward slash (\, backslash), which are both situated above the Return key, when you want to divide or when you type a web address.

The forward slash is an “illegal” character in file names in Mac OS X, which means you are not allowed to use it (it means something important to the Mac operating system). You can’t use a colon (:) either.
