Chapter 4. Keys & the Keyboard > What are All These Keys?

What are All These Keys?

On these two pages are photographs of the two main sorts of keyboards you’ll find attached to your Mac, with callouts telling you where to go for more information about particular keys. For a laptop keyboard and its special features, please see pages 45–46.

There are Shift, Control, Option, and Command keys on both sides of this keyboard.

The smaller keyboard

The keyboard shown below is the one that typically comes with iMacs, as well as with many other Macs. The Fkeys are smaller, there is no Forward Delete key, and the Edit keys are across the top of the numeric keypad. If you find you don’t feel comfortable with this smaller keyboard, you can always buy the larger one (as shown on the opposite page), or any number of other brands of keyboards.

There are Shift and Command keys on both sides of this keyboard.
