Internet & Network

The Internet & Network preferences cover the settings for connecting you to the Internet, for connecting (networking) the computers in your office, for sharing files between local computers once they’re connected, and for using QuickTime.

Internet

The Internet preferences are explained in Chapters 30 through 36 (check the index for a particular feature). Here is where you can sign up for a .Mac account (pronounced “dot Mac”), if you haven’t already, which gives you access to Apple’s WebMail, storage space on their servers so you can share files with other Mac users, and more (see pages xxi–xxii). This is also where you’ll set up your email specifics, some of your web preferences, plus an iDisk panel to monitor your storage and manage your Public Folder access.
