Chapter 7. All About Icons > Icons: Single-Click or Double-Click?

Icons: Single-Click or Double-Click?

Icons represent files on your Mac. You need a basic understanding of what the various icons are telling you about themselves, which is the main point of this chapter. But you also need to know that you must treat icons differently depending on where they are on your computer. For instance, to open an application from the Dock, you single-click on the icon; to open an application from the Applications folder, you double-click on the icon. This can be confusing, so let’s look at it visually right now.

In any Toolbar

Practice:

Single-click each item (except iDisk, if you have it). The window contents will change to show you what is contained in each item.
