Chapter 1. Moving Up to Mac OS X > Installing Mac OS 9.x

Installing Mac OS 9.x

If you plan to run applications in the Classic environment, you’ll need to have Mac OS 9.1 or later installed on your computer. If Mac OS 9.1 or later was already installed on your computer, you’re all set; a Mac OS X installation will not remove it (unless, of course, you initialized the disk).

If Mac OS 9.1 or later is not on your disk, start from a Mac OS 9.x installation disc. To do so, use the Startup Disk preferences pane to select the install disk (Figure 7) and click Restart. Then use the installer to Install Mac OS 9.x.
