Chapter 1. Switcher or Adder? > Who Is David Coursey?

Who Is David Coursey?

As I write this (and hope to be long after I finish), I am the executive editor of ZDNet AnchorDesk (www.anchordesk.com). That’s a fancy title that means ZDNet pays me way too much to just call me a columnist, which is closer to what I really am. I am also a host of a daily hour on CNET Radio (www.cnetradio.com) and do video segments for CNET.com and News.com. (CNET owns ZDNet.)

I have spent the last 20 years involved in personal computing—that’s half my life and the full lifetimes of both the PC and the Macintosh. For the past decade, I’ve been a commentator and analyst, which some companies I’ve written about have shortened to “all-pro pain in the ass.” I’ve hosted important conferences, helped introduce products such as the original Palm Pilot, and even been called a “computer expert” by Bill Gates. Steve Jobs, meanwhile, came pretty close to calling me a bozo when I didn’t immediately appreciate the wonders of iPhoto. I’d like to think Bill was right and am embarrassed that Steve was.
