Letting Another Computer Connect to Yours

If you want to share files with another computer, you will need to connect to it over your network. But before you can do that, there are some preliminaries. First, you must be sharing the file, folder, or disk so that someone can connect to it.

Sharing must be turned on, or the computer, whether Mac or PC, will not appear on the network. To turn sharing on, go to your Mac’s System Preferences and select the Sharing panel. On the Services Tab select Personal File Sharing to share with other Macs and Windows File Sharing to share with guess what (Figure 8.14).
