Chapter 8. Printing > Troubleshooting Printing Problems

Troubleshooting Printing Problems

When a printing problem occurs, Mac OS can often give you hints to help you figure out why. Here are some examples:

  • A dialog like the one in Figure 52 appears when your computer can’t find the selected printer. Check to make sure the printer is properly connected and turned on.

Figure 52. This dialog appeared when the printer wasn’t turned on.

  • A message like the one in Figure 53 appears when your printer has a paper jam. Clear the jam.

Figure 53. This message appeared in the printer queue window when the printer got a paper jam.

  • A dialog like the one in Figure 54 appears when your printer is out of paper. Add paper!

Figure 54. This dialog appeared in the printer queue window when the printer ran out of paper.

  • A dialog like the one in Figure 55 appears when your computer knows there’s a printing problem but can’t figure out what it is.

Figure 55. This dialog appeared when I confused my computer by purposely causing multiple printing errors, just so I could take these screen shots. (Ah, the things I do for readers.)
