Chapter 5. Application Basics > Using Classic Applications

Using Classic Applications

When you open a Mac OS application that isn’t Mac OS X-native, Mac OS X automatically launches the Classic environment, then opens the application within it. The application runs under Mac OS 9.x, which has slightly different interface elements.

This part of the chapter explains how you can manually start and stop the Classic environment, as well as how to use standard Open and Save As dialogs within Mac OS 9.x applications.
