Part 2: Working with Windows XP

Part 2: Working with Windows XP

Your computer is all set up and ready to go. Now what are you going to do?

Well, you could just turn it on and see what happens, but as with any powerful gadget, you'll get a lot more out of it if you learn a few basic rules that will give you the lay of the land and help you to maneuver around roadblocks.

In Part 2 I'll take you through the basics of using Windows XP. This is the “meat and potatoes” of using PCs (with all due apologies to vegetarians). Whether you're new to computers or just new to XP (and who isn't?), I think you'll find it pretty easy to follow.

You've installed Windows XP on your PC and you're ready to go. Now what? In this section, I'll walk you through the new desktop, Start menu, and Control Panel, teach you how to work with files, folders, and accessories, explain the ins and outs of networking, backing up, and shutting down, and of course, tell you how to get help when you need it. Let's get started!
