Expanding Menus

Microsoft Office and some other programs have short menus and long menus. Short menus are a bit more user friendly because they don't present you with too much information. But, as you might expect, they're also limited in what they can do.

Microsoft Office has an interesting trick: The menus expand as they are used. So, you may see a Short menu, but at the bottom of each menu are a pair of downward facing arrows. If you click on them you'll see more options. If you select an option, it magically appears on the menu for future use on the assumption that you are likely to use it again. If you don't use it, it will eventually disappear, but it can always be found by clicking on those down arrows.
