Appearance and Themes

Generally speaking, the items in this menu control how things look on your screen. Some of them, like the desktop theme or screen saver, are simple aesthetic choices, subject only to your tastes and whims. Others, like screen resolution, are more complicated and can even affect the overall performance of your PC.

The theme is the overall look and feel of the Windows XP desktop. Although it comes with a desktop theme already installed (the default theme), Microsoft provides a number of other options you can change it to. You can even switch to the Windows Classic look if you're nostalgic for your old version of Windows. You can also get other themes from various Web sites, including Microsoft's.
