Viruses, Worms, and Trojan Horses

By now you've undoubtedly heard about viruses. The “I Love You” virus was all over the news back in 2000 after it infected millions of computers. The “Code Red” worm also made the news, because it wormed its way into hundreds of thousands of Internet servers. Neither of these famous viruses wiped out data—they just clogged up the Internet and annoyed people. But viruses can and often do destroy files on people's PCs.

In fact, viruses can do an entire range of damage, from minor annoyances to major catastrophes.
