Starting Over

Restart is a command on the Start menu that simply restarts your computer. You'll find it comes in pretty handy if your machine suddenly slows down for no apparent reason or if some of your programs stop responding properly. Sometimes you'll use it after you install or uninstall software, too, unless the installation process restarts your computer automatically.

In theory, Windows XP doesn't need to be restarted very often because, unlike previous versions, the code is fairly stable and fairly forgiving of problems caused by software. However, there is always a difference between theory and practice. As good as XP is, it does hiccup now and then and the best cure is a good restart.
